Una levantada feroz de los Pumas estuvo a punto de alcanzar el triunfo ante los campeones del mundo salientes, unos Springboks que reconocieron la victoria lograda al último aliento, en el templo del Ellis Park en Johannesburgo y frente a 44. 357 espectadores.
Fue emblemática final del 11º Rugby Championship con performances superlativas del apertura cordobés Santiago Carreras, del full back cordobés Juan Cruz Mallía, del medio scrum mendocino Gonzalo Bertranou, del flanker santiagueño Facundo Isa y del wing tucumano Mateo Carreras.
En ese teatro de los sueños de la metrópolis sudafricana, los Boks fueron obligados a largos períodos recluídos en su propio campo de juego y en segundo tiempo disputado al último aliento, por unos Pumas aspirantes a ser protagonistas en el Mundial Francia 2023.
Y el primero a elogiar la tremenda actuación de la escuadra entrenada por el australiano-libanés Michael Cheika, fue el coach sudafricano Jacques Nienaber quién puso en evidencia momentos determinantes tras la amarilla al centro Damián de Allende.
Fue ese toque deliberado del tres cuartos hispano-sudafricano, a 7’ de la bocina, a motivar a Los Pumas a marcar, en tiempo de descuento con el medio scrum Gonzalo Bertranou, siendo aclamado por la multitud, y justo en la vigilia mundialista.
“Dijimos desde el principio que Argentina es un equipo duro, y hoy lo demostró. Dicho esto, estoy satisfecho con la forma en que los jugadores lograron el resultado”, reconoció antes que nada el entrenador sudafricano Jacques Nienaber.
“Vamos a experimentar
situaciones similares en la Copa del Mundo y la actitud que tuvieron los
jugadores en defensa fue sobresaliente; ya que cometimos errores con cosas
tácticas y técnicas, pero estoy
increíblemente orgulloso’’, sentenció Jacques Nienaber.
Y puso de relieve: ‘’No fue un partido bonito, pero fue bueno lograr la victoria, para conseguir la cohesión en la selección del plantel, y es ahí probablemente donde ponemos al equipo bajo presión, porque cada semana han tenido un pilar, un hooker y un ritmo diferente’’.
Mientras que el capitán sudafricano, el octavo Duane Vermeulen, admitió que el equipo se había hecho con la tarea más difícil: con la de ‘’falta de disciplina’’.
“Fue un juego intermitente para nosotros, y creo que nuestra disciplina no fue excelente; a veces, las sanciones simplemente suceden y luego obtienes esas sanciones evitables que no debes regalar y eso fue difícil para nosotros’’, reconoció Vermeulen .
Y resaltó performance de Los Pumas: “Hay que darles crédito ya que vimos cómo ganaron a los Wallabies, y contra nosotros en Durban el año pasado, regresaron con verdadera embestida, y anotaron tries al último instante porque juegan los 80’ y hay que mantener ese ritmo”.
Y con éste panorama de
advertencia, Jacques Nienaber va a disputar el amistoso en el estadio de Vélez
Sársfield, convocando a 26 jugadores y dejando a 16 en reserva en Sudáfrica.
Nienaber posteriormente completará
el plantel para enfrentar a Gales en Cardiff (sábado 19 de agosto) y a Nueva
Zelanda en Twickenham (viernes 25 de agosto) en últimos partidos de preparación antes de
viajar a Córcega donde concentrará rumbo al mundial.

“We are going to experience similar situations in World Cup and the attitude of the players in defense was outstanding; since we made mistakes with tactical and technical things, but I am incredibly proud'', Jacques Nienaber said.
And he highlighted: "It was not a pretty game, but it was good to win, to achieve cohesion in the selection of the squad, and that is probably where we put the team under pressure, because every week they have had a pillar, a hooker and a different rhythm''.
While the South African captain, number eighth Duane Vermeulen, admitted that the team had been done with the most difficult task: with that of "lack of discipline".
“It was an intermittent game for us, and I think our discipline was not great; sometimes penalties just happen and then you get those avoidable penalties that you shouldn't give away and that was difficult for us', ' Vermeulen acknowledged.
And he highlighted the performance of Los Pumas: “You have to

en réserve en Afrique du Sud.
Nienaber complétera plus tard l'effectif pour affronter le Pays de Galles à Cardiff (samedi 19 août) et la Nouvelle-Zélande à Twickenham (vendredi 25 août) lors des derniers matchs de préparation avant de se rendre en Corse où il se concentrera pour la Coupe du monde.
