Un debut cuesta arriba tuvieron Los Pampas XV  que en Perth cayeron  ante los Western Force por 29-6 (17-6) en el lejano oeste australiano, en su preparación a la Pacific Rugby Cup 2014 que se disputará entre el 21 de febrero y el 23 de marzo en la tierra de los Wallabies.

Ante Western Force, que venía de superar Samoa A el pasado viernes 7 por 63-9,  marcando 12 tries (uno fue try-penal), los Pampas XV en esta ocasión encajaron 5 ensayos, 2 del wing Wallaby Nick Cummins, el Jugador del Año en 2013.

Marcaron para los Western Force el hoocker Nathan Charles,  el wing Nick Cummins,  y el octavo Ben McCalman en el primer tiempo para el parcial de 17-6 y aumentaron en el segundo tiempo el full back Lucas Morahan, que proviene de los Rojos de Brisbane y redondeó Cummins para su doblete.

El entrenador de Western Force, el ex hoocker Wallaby Michael Foley,  destacó: “tanto las Pampas XV como Samoa  nos proporcionaron una fuerte competencia necesaria antes de nuestro debut en la conferencia de Australia”, del próximo  23 de febrero ante  los Waratahs de Nueva Gales del Sur  en Sydney.

En los Pampas XV marcó dos penales el apertura rosarino Patricio  Fernández y jugaron dos cordobeses: el segunda línea Matías Alemanno y en el segundo tiempo el flanker Rodrigo Bruno. próximo amistoso lo jugarán el sábado 22 ante New South Wales U20.

En el  nuevo formato de la Pacific Rugby Cup participan  9 equipos: 4 australianos del desarrollo del Super Rugby : ACT A, Waratahs A, Reds  A y Western Force A; 1 sudamericano:  los  Pampas XV y 4 asiáticos: Samoa A. Fidji Warriors de Fiji,  Tonga A. y Japón Júnior.

Los Pampas XV debutarán el domingo 2 de marzo, frente a los Brumbies A de  ACT en Canberra (capital de Australia) y la final tendrá lugar el domingo 23 de marzo en Sydney. Pero jugarán al final de la gira australiana un amistoso con los Brumbies que fueron los subcampeones del Super Rugby en 2013 el 26 de marzo.

En total la segunda selección nacional jugará  en Perth (Australia Occidental), Brisbane (Queensland), Sydney (Nueva Gales del Sur),  Canberra (Capital de los Territorios Australianos), Gold Coast (sureste de Queensland).

En menos de dos meses, los Pampas XV recorrerán el país-continente de Oceanía desde Perth distante 3.291.63 kilómetros en línea de aire de Sydney (la mayor metrópolis) en el otro extremo del este australiano distante 3.934 kms. en línea de tierra.

En este sueño por competir en dos años en una verdadera NBA del rugby, como es el Super Rugby, los Pampas XV comenzaron esa ilusión en Australia, buscando superar la diferencia horaria con Argentina, que respecto a  Perth son 11 y con Sydney 14 horas adelante.
