Los Pumas debutarán mañana viernes en temporada 2025, enfrentando a los Lions Británicos e Irlandeses, en el mítico estadio Lansdowne Road de Dublín a partir de las 16:00 hora de Argentina.
Serán un reencuentro de aquel empate 25-25 del seleccionado entrenado por el porteño Marcelo Hernán Loffreda, y que se remonta a 2005 en el entonces ‘’Millennium Stadium’’ de Cardiff, en Gales.
Después de dos décadas atrás, cuando los Lions que estaban entrenados por el inglés Sir Clive Woodward, que se preparaban a la gira por Nueva Zelanda, llega periplo por Australia con el coach inglés Andy Farrell.
"Sabemos que Argentina nos pondrá a prueba tanto en ataque como por los flancos, así que el viernes por la noche será un partido difícil, pero también una gran ocasión para todos los aficionados", resaltó Farrell.
Ahora es el segunda línea inglés Maro Itoje a liderar unos Lions, que tienen al full back inglés Marcus Smith como figura, junto a la pareja de medios inglesa formada por Alex Mitchell y Fin Smith.
"Felicitaciones a Maro Itoje por su debut como líder de los Lions. Es un momento realmente especial, uno que muy pocos jugadores pueden vivir", expresó Andy Farrell.
Para puntualizar: "Maro ha liderado bien al grupo en nuestra estancia en Portugal, y en ésta semana en Dublín. Es nuestra primera ocasión de demostrar la esencia de los Lions 2025 y lo que queremos".
El pilar irlandés Tadhg Furlong reaparece en el banco tras sufrir una lesión en la pantorrilla que lo dejó fuera de la victoria de Leinster en la final del United Rugby Championship sobre los Bulls.
Furlong está en un banco de suplentes junto al hooker Ronan Kelleher, el único jugador que participó contra los Pumas seis días después de las finales de temporada en noviembre 2024.
Si se recupera, el tres veces
visitante de los Lions, será favorito como pilar derecho en la serie de Test
contra los Wallabies. Tiene el telón de fondo de la gira por Australia para
demostrar que está listo.
El wing sudafricano Duhan van der Merwe es otro que busca demostrar su estado físico antes de su viaje a Australia el sábado, tras disputar solo 11’ en Seis Naciones por lesión de ligamentos en el tobillo.
Van der Merwe que milita en Escocia, forma potente línea de tres cuartos con el lanzador de tries inglés Tommy Freeman y los potentes centros Bundee Aki (Irlanda) y Sione Tuipulotu (Escocia).

The Pumas debut their 2025 season against the Lions
The Pumas will debut their 2025 season tomorrow, Friday, facing the British and Irish Lions at the legendary Lansdowne Road stadium in Dublin, starting at 4:00 p.m. Argentinian time.
It will be a rematch of the 25-25 draw between the national team coached by Buenos Aires’s Marcelo Hernán Loffreda, which dates back to 2005 at the then "Millennium Stadium" in Cardiff, Wales.

Ireland prop Tadhg Furlong returns to the bench after suffering a calf injury that kept him out of Leinster's United Rugby Championship final victory over the Bulls.
Furlong is on the bench alongside hooker Ronan Kelleher, the only player who featured against the Pumas six days after the season finals in November 2024.
If he recovers, the three-time Lions visitor will be favored at tighthead prop in the Test series against the Wallabies. He has the backdrop of the Australian tour to prove his readiness.
South African winger Duhan van der Merwe is another looking to prove his fitness before their trip to Australia on Saturday, having played just 11 minutes in the Six Nations due to an ankle ligament injury.
Van der Merwe, who plays for Scotland, forms a powerful back three with English try-taker Tommy Freeman and powerful centers Bundee Aki (Ireland) and Sione Tuipulotu (Scotland).
Fourteen players could make their Lions debut in first tour match against Los Pumas, including English flanker Henry Pollock, youngest player on the team at 20 years old and a backup to Tom Curry and Jac Morgan.
Much of Farrell's selection was made on her own, given that 15 of her stars participated in the United Rugby Championship and Premiership finals on Saturday.
Buenos Aires’s hooker Julián Montoya, captain of Leicester City, who lost against Bath 23-21 in Premiership final, and Córdoba’s full back Santiago Carreras, who will make his league debut with Bath in 2025-2026, will lead the Pumas against the Lions.
