Los Pumas buscan su segunda medalla de bronce en el 10º Mundial de Rugby, ante Inglaterra, mañana viernes a partir de las 16:00 hora argentina, con tiempo otoñal frío (13º ) y bajo la lluvia, en el Stade de France, en Saint Denis, suburbio norte de Paris.
Argentina culmina una trayectoria de 7 partidos y no ha producido una performance consistente; mientras que Inglaterra lo ha hecho, pero poco atractiva en sus actuaciones ganando cinco partidos seguidos y cayendo frente a Sudáfrica, campeona del mundo saliente.
Será una revancha para Los Pumas entrenados por el australiano libanés Michael Cheika, con un margen de victoria para Inglaterra mucho más ajustado que aquel obtenido en el Orange Velodrome de Marsella (27-10) en la jornada debut. Pero ahora por solo 5 puntos.
Cheika ha realizado solo tres cambios en su alineación titular en intento por conseguir el bronce. A diferencia de los Red Roses entrenados por Steven Borthwick, que ha realizado ocho cambios, para ir por todas en la conquista del Bronce Mundial.
Las posiciones a cambiar son las del segunda línea santafecino Pedro Rubiolo, del medio scrum porteño Tomas Cubelli y del centro rosarino Jerónimo de la Fuente, que sustituyen al porteño Tomás Lavanini, al mendocino Gonzalo Bertranou y al santafecino Santiago Chocobares.
Por lo que los 12 restantes permanecen tras la derrota encajada frente a Nueva Zelanda en semifinales, apuntando al apertura cordobés Santiago Carreras, al full back cordobés Juan Cruz Mallia, al wing rosarino Emiliano Boffelli y al wing tucumano Mateo Carreras.
En la estratégica tercera línea, estará puesta toda la performance, del octavo santiagueño Facundo Isa, y de sus flankers: el mendocino Juan Martín González, y el entrerriano Marcos Kremer, a quienes compete frenar al medio scrum Ben Youngs y al apertura Owen Farrell.
Y en la primera línea recaerá toda la actitud para enfrentar la embestida del trío Will Stuart,Theo Dan, y Ellis Genge, a cargo del pilar zquierdo tucumano Thomas Gallo, del hooker porteño y capitán Julián Montoya y del pilar derecho porteño Francisco Gómez Kodela.
A la vez que el entrenador inglés, Steve Borthwick, ha realizado ocho cambios apuntando, al flanker Tom Curry que disputará50º Cap , a la vez que Marcus Smith regresa como full back; y el wing Freddie Steward es el único en repetir, tras ser full back ante Sudáfrica.
Marcus Smith se recuperó de la conmoción cerebral que lo dejó fuera del choque contra Sudáfrica y vuelve como full back junto a Henry Arundell, quien anotó cuatro tries contra Chile, reemplazando a Elliot Daly, completando Manu Tuilagi y Joe Marchant como centros.
Entre los delanteros, Curry sustituye a Courtney Lawes quién anunció su retirada. Curry va como seis, con Sam Underhill ingresando a la alineación titular en el lado abierto y Ben Earl como octavo.

“Hay que salir, a hacer un buen partido, mejorar lo que hicimos y acabar con la medalla colgada y no es lo mismo perder o ganar con tu equipo. A nadie le gusta perder en un equipo que aprende de sus errores’’, sentenció el entrenador asistente porteño.
Steven Borthwick resaltó: “La final de bronce es gran oportunidad para continuar construyendo para el futuro y brindarles a nuestros seguidores una última oportunidad de apoyar al equipo aquí en París, ya que esperamos con ansias el desafío contra una Argentina fuerte“.
