En el estadio ‘’23 de Agosto’’ de la ciudad de San Salvador Jujuy, capital de la Provincia del norte de Argentina, y ante 21.000 espectadores, Los Pumas comenzaron era del australiano Michael Cheika como entrenador, ganando a Escocia 26-18 (18-6) rompiendo una prolongada racha negativa.
El equipo fue conducido por el apertura cordobés Santiago Carreras a partir de los 21’ de juego por desgarro del tucumano Nicolás Sánchez, y por el medio scrum mendocino Gonzalo Bertranou, ‘’Man of the Match’’. Los Pumas buscaron el equilibrio y mejora en la performance entre delanteros y tres cuartos.
Fueron determinantes los tries del centro rosarino Jerónimo de la Fuente (30’), del apertura cordobés Santiago Carreras (34’) y del medio scrum mendocino Gonzalo Bertranou (57’) , sumansdo dos penales (4’ y 18’) del tucumano Nicolás Sánchez, y un penal (71’) y una conversión *36’) del wing rosarino Emiliano Boffelli.
Mientras que por Escocia entrenada por Gregor Townsend, marcaron dos tries el centro Mark Bennett (48’) y el fullback Rory Hutchinson (54’), sumando el apertura Blair Kinghorn que marcó dos penales (15’y 25’) y una conversión (55’).
Por primera vez en tres años, volvió la competición en Argentina, ya que el último test-match se disputó el 10 de agosto de 2019, cuando Los Pumas cayeron ante los Springboks 46-13 en estadio ‘’Padre Ernesto Martearena’’ en Ciudad de Salta, capital de la Provincia del norte argentino, fronterizo junto a Jujuy, con Bolivia.
Cambió la etapa que tuvo como entrenador al porteño Mario Ledesma, en trayectoria traumática y que tuvo como epicentro a Australia, en pleno primer tramo de la pandemia Covid-19, y según el ranking mundial actual, Escocia está 7º con 81.80 pts. y Argentina 8º con 80.58.
Escocia, en el segundo tiempo propuso sólida defensa, y despliegue ofensivo con veloces entradas de sus tres cuartos y se replegó bien en la retaguardia, mientras que Argentina se ordenó y cometiendo menos errores defensivos, aunque careció de profundidad en su ataque.
Ahora el próximo sábado 9 de julio, tendrá lugar la segunda confrontación de la serie en el estadio ‘’Padre Ernesto Martearena’’ de la Ciudad de Salta, capital de la provincia del mismo nombre, para cerrar la serie el sábado 16 de julio en el Estadio ‘’Madre de Ciudades’’ en la Ciudad de Santiago del Estero.
