Hoy domingo 22 de mayo de 2022, recordamos con emoción haber sido testigo con la cobertura periodística respectiva, de la I Copa Mundial de Rugby en 1987, y disputada en las Antípodas, en la Oceanía, donde Australia y Nueva Zelanda  fueron los anfitriones desde el 22 de mayo al 20 de junio de 1987 . Los campeones fueron por primera vez los co-anfitriones, los  «All Blacks» siendo desde un primer momento los principales favoritos para obtener el primer trofeo William Webb Ellis en el mítico Estadio Eden Park de Auckland, en el extremo norte de la Isla Boreal, frente a  Les Bleus de Francia, por 29-9. El flanker neozelandés: Michael Jones fue elegido el Mejor Jugador del Torneo. De los 16 participantes, 7  fueron miembros de la ex International Rugby Board, la IRB, hoy denominada esa Federación Internacional como la World Rugby, eran ellos:  Inglaterra, Francia, Nueva Zelanda, Gales, Escocia, Australia e Irlanda. 

Por  política del apartheid (culturas y razas separadas) , fue prohibida  participación de Sudáfrica. No hubo clasificación para completar los 9 equipos restantes, pero hubo polémica al  ser excluída Samoa a pesar de tener mejor nivel de juego que algunos de los  invitados. La Unión Soviética rechazó su invitación al mundial por motivos políticos. Nueva Zelanda fue el primer Campeón del Mundo que derrotó en la final a Francia, a Les Blues por 29-9.  Argentina quedó eliminada en el Grupo C de  la ronda clasificatoria, terminando en tercer lugar por detrás de Nueva Zelanda y Fidji y por delante de Italia. Debutó en el Waikato Stadium de Hamilton, centro de la Isla Norte, perdiendo ante Fidji por 28-8,  luego ganó a Italia 25-16 en el Lancaster Park de Christchurch, Isla Sur, y perdió  frente a Nueva Zelanda por46-15 en el mítico estadio Athletic Park de Wellington, la capital, en extremo sur de la Isla Norte. Detalle anecdótico, el debut de un argentino en la jornada inaugural: fue el apertura cordobés Rodolfo Carlos Ambrosio, jugando por Italia, que cayó ante Nueva Zelanda por 70-6 en el Eden Park de Auckland. En el plantel de Argentina, entrenado por el platense Héctor Silva, fueron convocados 22 porteños, 2 rosarinos, 1 cordobés, 1 entrerriano, y 1 tucumano. El apertura porteño Hugo Porta a sus 35 años fue el mejor realizador de Argentina con 33 puntos.

Remembering the 1st. Rugby World Cup in May-June 1987

Today, Sunday, May 22, 2022, we remember with emotion having witnessed, with the respective journalistic coverage, the I Rugby World Cup in 1987, and played in the Antipodes, in Oceania, where Australia and New Zealand were the hosts from the beginning. May 22 to June 20, 1987. The champions were co-hosts for the first time, the "All Blacks" being from the outset the main favorites to obtain the first William Webb Ellis trophy at the legendary Eden Park Stadium in Auckland, on the northern tip of the Boreal Island, against Les Bleus de France, by 29-9. The New Zealand flanker: Michael Jones was chosen the Best Player of the Tournament. Of the 16 participants, 7 were members of  former International Rugby Board, the IRB, today called that International Federation as World Rugby, they were: England, France, New Zealand, Wales, Scotland, Australia and Ireland. Due to the policy of apartheid (separate cultures and races), the participation of South Africa was prohibited. There was no qualification to complete the remaining 9 teams, but there was controversy as Samoa was excluded despite having a better level of play than some of the invitees. The Soviet Union rejected his invitation to the World Cup for political reasons. New Zealand was the first World Champion to defeat France, Les Blues, 29-9 in the final. Argentina was eliminated in Pool  C of the qualifying round, finishing in third place behind New Zealand and Fiji and ahead of Italy. 

They debuted at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton, central North Island, losing against  Fiji 28-8, then beat Italy 25-16 at Lancaster Park in Christchurch, South Island, and lost with New Zealand 46-15 in the mythical Athletic Park stadium in Wellington, the capital, in the extreme south of the North Island. Anecdotal detail, the debut of an Argentinian on the opening day: it was the Cordoba’s fly-half Rodolfo Carlos Ambrosio, playing for Italy, who fell against  New Zealand 70-6 at Eden Park in Auckland. In the Argentinian squad, trained by Héctor Silva from La Plata City, 22 players  from Buenos Aires, 2 from Rosario, 1 from Córdoba, 1 from Entre Ríos, and 1 from Tucuman were called up. The Buenos Aires’s fly half  Hugo Porta at 35 years old was the best scorer in Argentina with 33 points.

Du 22 mai au 20 juin 1987. Les champions sont les co-organisés pour la première fois, les "All Blacks" étant d'emblée les principaux favoris pour obtenir le premier trophée William Webb Ellis au mythique Stade Eden Park d'Auckland, sur le pointe nord de l'Île Boréale, face aux Bleus de France, par 29-9.
