Luego de realizarse estudios, se confirmó que el full back cordobés Juan Cruz Mallía sufrió lesión post traumática de ligamento cruzado anterior en su rodilla derecha, tras ser tackleado a destiempo por el flanker inglés Tom Curry.
El brutal golpe se produjo a los 74’ del test match Inglaterra 27-Argentina 23, del domingo 23 de noviembre 2025 en estadio de Twickenham, Londres.
Se dijo que en rodilla derecha de Juanchi Mallía, ‘’no hubo rotura, ya que se trata como un desgarro o esguince, que ocurre cuando se recibe un duro golpe, o se produce un giro o una parada brusca’’.
Mallía tenía la posesión de la pelota y ejecutó un gran kick antes de recibir el golpe del inglés que llegó tarde, y lo impactó, en una acción peligrosa que detuvo el juego y generó preocupación.
El full back necesitó asistencia, y no fue reemplazado, por lo que Los Pumas jugaron el resto del partido con 14 hombres al no contarse con reservas.
Las cámaras mostraban su gesto de dolor, a la vez que el flanker inglés, no fue amonestado ni por el árbitro francés Pierre Brousset, ni por el Oficial de televisión, el francés Eric Gauzins.
El golpe sobre Mallía condicionó el cierre del partido, ya que el ex zaguero del Jockey Club Córdoba y actual del Stade Toulousain del Top14 francés, es uno de los mejores jugadores de los Pumas entrenados por el porteño Felipe Contepomi.
Tras el partido, Felipe Contepomi, que también es médico, expresó: “Fue imprudente (Tom Curry) y le rompió la rodilla a nuestro jugador. Sé que es rugby, pero si no nos cuidamos, puede ser peligroso. Cuando llegó (al túnel), le dije: ‘Le rompiste la rodilla a nuestro jugador’. Me dijo ‘Vete a la mierda!' y me empujó”.
Ahora Mallía deberá hacer la recuperación en Toulouse, suroeste francés, y estar varias semanas afuera de las canchas. Todavía no hay un tiempo estimado, pero posiblemente seis meses.
Según el parte médico de la Unión Argentina de Rugby (UAR), ‘’Juan Cruz Mallía sufrió lesión postraumática del ligamento cruzado anterior de la rodilla derecha’’.
‘’El tiempo de recuperación para una lesión de ligamento cruzado anterior (LCA) suele ser prolongado. Aproximadamente 6 meses’’.

After undergoing tests, it was confirmed that Argentinian fullback Juan Cruz Mallía suffered a post-traumatic anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee after being tackled late by English flanker Tom Curry.
The brutal impact occurred in the 74th minute of the test match between England (27) and Argentina (23), played on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Twickenham Stadium in London.
It was reported that Mallía's right knee "was not torn, but rather treated as a strain or sprain, which occurs when someone receives a hard blow, or makes a sudden turn or stop."
Mallía had possession of the ball and executed a great kick before being tackled late by the Englishman, in a dangerous action that stopped play and caused concern.
The fullback needed medical attention and was not replaced, so Los Pumas played the remainder of the match with 14 men as they had no substitutes available.
Cameras showed his expression of pain, while the English flanker was not cautioned by either the French referee Pierre Brousset or the TV official, Frenchman Eric Gauzins.
The blow to Mallía affected the end of the match, as the former Jockey Club Córdoba fullback, currently with Stade Toulousain in the French Top 14, is one of the best players on the Pumas team coached by Buenos Aires’s Felipe Contepomi.
After the match, Felipe Contepomi, who is also a doctor, stated: “He (Tom Curry) was reckless and broke our player's knee. I know it's rugby, but if we're not careful, it can be dangerous. When he arrived (at the tunnel), I told him: ‘You broke our player's knee.’ He told me, ‘’Go fuck yourself!” and shoved me.”
Now Mallía will have to undergo rehabilitation in Toulouse, in southwestern France, and will be out of action for several weeks. There is no estimated timeframe yet, but it is likely to be six months.

Le violent impact s'est produit à la 74e minute du test-match entre l'Angleterre (27) et l'Argentine (23), disputé le dimanche 23 novembre 2025 au stade de Twickenham à Londres.
Selon les informations, le genou droit de Mallía « n'était pas déchiré, mais souffrait plutôt d'une entorse ou d'une foulure, ce qui arrive lorsqu'on reçoit un coup violent, ou qu'on effectue un changement de direction ou un arrêt brusque ».
Mallía était en possession du ballon et a effectué un superbe coup de pied avant d'être plaqué tardivement par l'Anglais, une action dangereuse qui a interrompu le jeu et suscité l'inquiétude.
L'arrière a dû recevoir des soins médicaux et n'a pas été remplacé. Les Pumas ont donc terminé la rencontre à 14, faute de remplaçants.
Les caméras ont capté sa douleur, et le flanker anglais n'a reçu aucun avertissement, ni de l'arbitre français Pierre Brousset, ni de l'arbitre vidéo, le Français Éric Gauzins.
Ce coup reçu par Mallía a influencé la fin du match. L'ancien arrière du Jockey Club de Cordoba, qui évolue actuellement au Stade Toulousain en Top 14, est l'un des meilleurs joueurs des Pumas, entraînés par Felipe Contepomi, le technicien de Buenos Aires.
Après le match, Felipe Contepomi, également médecin, a déclaré : « Il (Tom Curry) a été imprudent et a fracturé le genou de notre joueur. Je sais que c'est du rugby, mais si on ne fait pas attention, ça peut être dangereux. Quand il est arrivé (au tunnel), je lui ai dit : “Tu as fracturé le genou de notre joueur.” Il m'a répondu : “Va te faire foutre !” et m'a bousculé''.
Mallía va maintenant devoir suivre une rééducation à Toulouse, dans le sud-ouest de la France, et sera indisponible pendant plusieurs semaines. On ne connaît pas encore la durée exacte de son indisponibilité, mais elle devrait être de six mois.
