Los All Blacks ganaron a Los Pumas 41-24 (31-10) en debut del 14º Rugby Championship 2025, en el estadio Mario Alberto Kempes en Ciudad de Córdoba, y son los nuevos líderes del ranking mundial.

En el otro encuentro de primera ronda del máximo torneo del hemisferio sur, los Springboks en su feudo del Ellis Park de Johannesburgo cayeron ante los Wallabies por 38-22 y perdieron el primado.

Los All Blacks en la alta intensidad, mejoraron en final del primer tiempo con un try del tercera línea Ardie Savea, el mejor jugador del partido, seguido del segundo try del wing Sevu Reece.

Con una ventaja de 31-10 a la pausa, Nueva Zelanda, contuvo remontada de Argentina liderada por el full back cordobés Juan Cruz Mallía, que lanzó al wing mendocino Rodrigo Isgró al try en la bandera.

En el segundo tiempo, Los Pumas fueron al abordaje y marcaron con el apertura tucumano Tomás Albornoz y el octavo cordobés Joaquín Oviedo, de destacada performarce anotando su 4º ensayo bajo los postes.

Pero la indisciplina fue la constante en los Pumas a con penales cometidos, por 4 neozelandeses, y que se cobró la amarilla al pilar Mayco Viva. Los All Blacks anotaron 6 ensayos por 3 de Los Pumas.

El hooker suplente neozelandés Samisoni Taukei’aho anotó dos tries en los últimos minutos para sellar el 41-24 en primer turno del 14º Rugby Championship sy devolver a All Blacks la cima del ranking mundial.

Los All Blacks alcanzaron el 1º lugar del ranking por primera vez desde 2021, superando a bicampeones del mundo, Sudáfrica, que cayó ante Australia por 38-22 en Johannesburgo en el primer partido del torneo.

El wing Sevu Reece también anotó un doblete para los visitantes, mientras que el apertura Beauden Barrett anotó 11 puntos y fue jugador clave con sus patadas tácticas.

Mientras que Tomás Albornoz, anotó 14 puntos, incluyendo un try, pero los Pumas no pudieron romper su racha de 15 partidos sin ganar en Argentina, a los All Blacks.

Con éste marcador los neozelandeses mantienen el invicto en lo que va de la temporada tras ganar la serie de julio a Francia por 3-0.

Momento culminante del partido, cuando los All Blacks perdieron al centro Billy Proctor por tarjeta amarilla y los Pumas acortaron el pasivo a 31-24 con el try espectacular de Joaquín Oviedo, figura del partido.

Pero el hooker suplente de los All Blacks, Taukei'aho, desanimó a la multitud al abrirse paso en el tráfico para anotar dos veces a los 68’ y 73’, tries determinantes.

Para el capitán de los All Blacks, el segunda línea Scott Barrett,  "Hablamos de empezar bien y creo que lo logramos. Terminamos el segundo tiempo  bastante fuertes; y fue una declaración de intenciones".

Ahora Pumas y All Blacks van por revancha el próximo sábado en el estadio José Amalfitani en Ciudad de Buenos Aires; y completan Springboks y Wallabies en otra revancha en DHL Stadium de Ciudad del Cabo.

New Zealand withstood a comeback from Argentina and climbed to first place in the world rugby rankings

The All Blacks defeated Los Pumas 41-24 (31-10) in the debut of the 14th Rugby Championship 2025 at the Mario Alberto Kempes Stadium in Córdoba City, and are the new leaders of the world rankings.

In the other first-round match of the southern hemisphere's premier tournament, the Springboks fell to the Wallabies 38-22 at Ellis Park in Johannesburg and lost the championship.

The All Blacks, playing at high intensity, improved at the end of the first half with a try from back-row Ardie Savea, the man of the match, followed by a second try from winger Sevu Reece.

With a 31-10 lead at the break, New Zealand held off an Argentine comeback led by Córdoba full-back Juan Cruz Mallía, who fired a try past Mendoza winger Rodrigo Isgró at the flag.

In the second half, Los Pumas attacked and scored through Tucumán fly-half Tomás Albornoz and Córdoba number eight Joaquín Oviedo, who delivered an outstanding performance, scoring his fourth try between the posts.

But the Pumas' indiscipline was a constant, with four New Zealanders committing penalties and a yellow card for prop Mayco Viva. The All Blacks scored six tries to Los Pumas' three.

New Zealand substitute hooker Samisoni Taukei'aho scored two tries in the final minutes to seal a 41-24 victory in the first round of the 14 Rugby Championship and return the All Blacks to the top of the world rankings.

The All Blacks reached number one in the rankings for the first time since 2021, overtaking two-time world champions South Africa, who fell to Australia 38-22 in Johannesburg in the tournament opener.

Winger Sevu Reece also scored a brace for the visitors, while fly-half Beauden Barrett scored 11 points and was a key player with his tactical kicks.

Meanwhile, Tomás Albornoz scored 14 points, including a try, but the Pumas were unable to break their 15-match winless streak in Argentina against the All Blacks.

 

With this score, the New Zealanders remain unbeaten this season after winning the July series against France 3-0.

The highlight of the match was when the All Blacks lost center Billy Proctor to a yellow card, and the Pumas reduced the deficit to 31-24 with a spectacular try from Joaquín Oviedo, the star of the match.

But All Blacks backup hooker Taukei'aho roused the crowd by weaving through traffic to score two crucial tries in the 68th and 73rd minutes.

For All Blacks captain, second-row Scott Barrett, "We talked about starting well, and I think we did. We finished the second half pretty strong; and it was a statement of intent."

Now the Pumas and All Blacks will seek revenge next Saturday at José Amalfitani Stadium in Buenos Aires. The Springboks and Wallabies will complete the rematch at DHL Stadium in Cape Town.

Los resultados en la primera ronda del 14º Rugby Championship 2025, provocaron gran impacto en el ranking mundial en domingo 17 de agosto, con los Springboks que perdieron el primado a manos de los All Blacks.

La derrota de los Springboks ante los Wallabies por 38-22 en el Ellis Park de Johannesburgo provocó el descenso de los bicampeones del mundo, al tercer escalón, mientras que los All Blacks tras superar a los Pumas por 41-24 en el Mario Alberto Kempes de Ciudad de Córdoba, alcanzaron el primado.

El primer equipo del hemisferio norte, Irlanda, se encaramó al 2º  puesto, superando a Sudáfrica, que retrocedió al 3º lugar, escalando al segundo, no obstante no haber jugado éste fin de semana.

La derrota de Sudáfrica ante Australia, le costó tres puntos en el ranking y significó que es la primera vez desde su triunfo en la X Copa Mundial en Francia 2023, que no ocupa el primado en escalafón mundial.

El resultado de ayer sábado marcó el primer revés de los Springboks en su feudo sudafricano, frente a los Wallabies en 12 años, y fue la primer victoria de Australia en Johannesburgo desde 1963.

A pesar de ganar tres puntos en ranking con triunfo sobre los bicampeones del mundo, los Wallabies se mantienen en 6º lugar, lo mismo que los Pumas entrenados por el porteño Felipe Contepomi, en el 7º peldaño, pero apremiados por Escocia que está 8º.

Sin embargo, el equipo entrenado por el neozelandés Joe Schmidt, redujo significativamente la diferencia con Francia que está  4º y con  Inglaterra que detenta el 5º,  respectivamente.

The results in the first round of the 14 Rugby Championship 2025 had a major impact on the world rankings on Sunday, August 17, with the Springboks losing the top spot to the All Blacks.

The Springboks' 38-22 defeat to the Wallabies at Ellis Park in Johannesburg dropped the two-time world champions to third place, while the All Blacks, after defeating the Pumas 41-24 at the Mario Alberto Kempes Stadium in Córdoba City, took the top spot.

The top team from the northern hemisphere, Ireland, climbed to second place, overtaking South Africa, which dropped back to third, climbing to second, despite not playing this weekend.

South Africa's defeat to Australia cost them three ranking points and meant it was the first time since their triumph at the 10th World Cup in France in 2023 that they had not held the top spot in the world rankings.

Yesterday's result marked the Springboks' first defeat on their home soil, against the Wallabies, in 12 years, and Australia's first victory in Johannesburg since 1963.

Despite gaining three ranking points with a win over the two-time world champions, the Wallabies remain in 6th place, the same as the Pumas, coached by Buenos Aires’s Felipe Contepomi, in 7th, but pressured by Scotland, who are in 8th.

However, the team coached by New Zealander Joe Schmidt significantly closed the gap with France, which is fourth, and England, which holds fifth, respectively.

Australia, with six tries, achieved a remarkable comeback from 0-20 down to beat South Africa 38-22 and win at the legendary Ellis Park for the first time since 1963.

La confrontación está planteada en sus respectivas terceras líneas convocantes al protagonismo al octavo cordobés Joaquín Emanuel Oviedo, enfrentando a su par Ardie Savea en conquista de la base del scrum.

Ellos son la clave para los entrenadores, ya que el porteño Felipe Contepomi apunta a velocidad y potencias y su adversario el neozelandés Scott Robertson, apuesta a experiencia y oficio de Savea.

Hoy Felipe Contepomi pone toda la carne al asador contando con la flor y nata de un plantel con la jerarquía de saber jugar hasta el último respiro, en el juego desplegado, como en la defensa aérea.

Para Felipe Contepomi,"Va a ser un partido físico, muy dinámico, y cuando ellos se vengan, tener la urgencia de defender y recuperar la pelota, ante un equipo muy peligroso, tienen potencia, velocidad, y buen juego’’.

‘’Los All Blacks tradicionalmente es un equipo muy difícil de jugarle por todas esas variables que tienen, son muy consistente; debemos mantener esa pelea, por 80’ y ver qué sucede con el resultado’’, sentenció.

Para resaltar: ‘’La mentalidad nuestra pasa más por estar y realmente atacarlos cuando tenemos la oportunidad. Y entender que nos puede pasar que te corten o que te hagan un try, y cómo volvés es lo más importante’’.

Junto a Juan Cruz Mallia, está el cerco del fondo de cancha con el veloz wing de Harlequins, el mendocino Rodrigo Isgró, ayudado en la cobertura por el wing porteño del Clermont, Bautista Delguy.

Mientras tanto el octavo Ardie Savea cambia de posición nuevamente en la base del scrum de los All Blacks ya que el coach Scott Robertson apuesta por la experiencia en debut del Rugby Championship.

Ardie Savea ha sido cambiado a octavo por  ausencias de Wallace Sititi y Luke Jacobson, ya que es un flanker de largo recorrido en los dos primeros tets matches contra Francia, en la base del scrum.

Savea  fue nombrado inicialmente como número siete antes del tercer partido, aunque cambió a octavo tras la retirada tardía de Jacobson, y se esperaba que jugara como flanker ante Los Pumas.

Por lo tanto, Robertson ha movido a Savea, formando un trío flexible con Du'Plessis Kirifi y Tupou Vaa'i. Y es la única convocatoria importante, ya que el resto del XV titular es prácticamente como se esperaba.

En los tres cuartos Cortez Ratima asume como medio scrum titular tras las lesiones de Cam Roigard y Noah Hotham, y formará pareja con el apertura Beauden Barrett, quien se recupera.

Se estima de que la notable estadística del ausente y relegado Richie Mo'unga por Beauden Barrett, aparece como que Scott Robertson se equivocó al tomar esa decisión.

The Pumas aim to make history against the All Blacks in Córdoba

Like never before, the Pumas aim to make history on Saturday against the All Blacks at the Mario Alberto Kempes Stadium in Córdoba City, in the debut of the 14th Rugby Championship.

The confrontation is set in their respective back rows, with the Córdoba number eight Joaquín Emanuel Oviedo taking center stage, facing off against his counterpart Ardie Savea in fight for the base of the scrum.

They are the key for the coaches, as Buenos Aires’s Felipe Contepomi focuses on speed and power, while his opponent, New Zealander Scott Robertson, relies on Savea's experience and skill.

Today, Felipe Contepomi is putting all his effort into the squad, counting on the best of the best, with the talent to play until the last breath, both in the open game and in aerial defense.

And if the key lies in Joaquín Oviedo's maneuvering at the back of the scrum, lineouts, and maul, the other key for Los Pumas lies in Córdoba’s full-back Juan Cruz Mallía, who can direct traffic in the hot zone of the pitch.

The star of three-time champion Toulouse is already making his debut on the scene, just like the USA Perpignan’s number eight imagines, in the battle to define possession near the New Zealand goal.

For Felipe Contepomi, "It's going to be a physical, very dynamic match, and when they get back, we need to have the urgency to defend and win the ball back against a very dangerous team. They have power, speed, and good play."

"The All Blacks are traditionally a very difficult team to play against because of all the variables they have. They're very consistent; we have to keep fighting for 80 minutes and see what happens with the result", he concluded.

He emphasized: "Our mentality is more about being there and really attacking them when we have the opportunity. And understanding that you can be cut or concede a try, and how you come back is the most important thing".

Along with Juan Cruz Mallia, there's the backcourt fence with Harlequins' speedy winger, Rodrigo Isgró from Mendoza, assisted in covering by Clermont's winger, Bautista Delguy from Buenos Aires.

And with the three-quarters, Contepomi focuses on the busy midfield. With Toulouse's Santiago Chocobares from Rufino, playing brilliantly in defense, as well as Buenos Aires’s Lucio Cinti (Saracens).

The Tucumán duo of Gonzalo García (Zebre) and Tomás Albornoz (Benetton) must free up play from Oviedo, Entre Ríos’s Marcos Kremer (Clermont), Buenos Aires’s Pablo Matera (Honda), and Córdoba’s Franco Molina (Western Force).

Their front row is completed by Oyonnax's loosehead prop, Rafaela’s Mayco Vivas, along with Buenos Aires’s hooker Julián Montoya (Section Paloise), and Dogos XV's tighthead prop, Pedro Delgado Ibáñez from Santiago del Estero.

Their arrivals are anticipated: Mendoza native flanker Juan Martín González (Saracens), Buenos Aires native second-row Guido Petti Pagadizábal (Harlequins), Córdoba native fly-half Santiago Carreras (Bath), and scrum-half Buenos Aires native Simón Benítez Cruz (Newcastle Falcons).

Coach Scott Robertson said, "We had a great week of training in Buenos Aires and the group is ready to go out and play with focus and motivation at the start of the season."

"We know that the Pumas' identity is a fast, physical game, and we selected a team that's up to the task. It's been 30 years since the All Blacks played here in Córdoba, and we're looking forward to the passion and energy of the home crowd."

Meanwhile, number eight Ardie Savea changes position again at the base of the All Blacks' scrum as coach Scott Robertson relies on experience for his Rugby Championship debut.

Ardie Savea has been switched to number eight due to the absences of Wallace Sititi and Luke Jacobson, as he is a long-range flanker at the base of the scrum in the first two matches against France.

Savea was initially named at number seven before the third match, although he was changed to number eight after Jacobson's late withdrawal, and was expected to play at flanker against Los Pumas.

Robertson has therefore moved Savea, forming a flexible trio with Du'Plessis Kirifi and Tupou Vaa'i. This is the only significant call-up, as the rest of the starting XV is pretty much as expected.

At three-quarters, Cortez Ratima takes over as the starting scrum-half following injuries to Cam Roigard and Noah Hotham, and will partner fly-half Beauden Barrett, who is recovering.

The notable statistic of Beauden Barrett's absence and demotion suggests that Scott Robertson made the wrong decision.

Barrett's brother, Jordie, plays at centre-back and occasionally combines with Billy Proctor, while Will Jordan, Sevu Reece, and Rieko Ioane are the back three.

There's a third Barrett among the forwards, as captain Scott has recovered from injury to take his place alongside this year's breakout star, Fabian Holland.

The starting XV is completed by Fletcher Newell, who replaces Tyrel Lomax at tighthead prop for the third time this year, Codie Taylor, and Ethan de Groot.

On the bench, Finlay Christie comes in ahead of Kyle Preston, while Robertson relies on experience in the Rugby Championship opener.

The same goes for Anton Lienert-Brown's selection in the number 22 jersey, who receives the nod in place of young substitutes Quinn Tupaea and Timoci Tavatavanawai.

Les Pumas visent une page d'histoire face aux All Blacks à Córdoba

Comme jamais auparavant, les Pumas visent une page d'histoire samedi face aux All Blacks au stade Mario Alberto Kempes de Córdoba, pour le coup d'envoi du 14e Rugby Championship.

L'affrontement se déroulera en troisième ligne, avec le numéro huit de Córdoba, Joaquín Emanuel Oviedo, en première ligne, face à son homologue Ardie Savea pour la base de la mêlée.

Pour les entraîneurs, ils sont la clé : Felipe Contepomi, originaire de Buenos Aires, mise sur la vitesse et la puissance, tandis que son adversaire, le Néo-Zélandais Scott Robertson, mise sur l'expérience et le talent de Savea.

Aujourd'hui, Felipe Contepomi investit toute son énergie dans l'équipe, comptant sur la crème de la crème, capable de jouer jusqu'au bout, aussi bien dans le jeu ouvert qu'en défense aérienne.

Et si la clé réside dans les manœuvres de Joaquín Oviedo en fond de mêlée, en touche et en maul, l'autre clé pour les Pumas réside dans l’ arrière Juan Cruz Mallía, de Córdoba, capable de diriger le jeu dans la zone chaude du terrain.

La star de Toulouse, triple championne du monde, fait déjà ses débuts sur la scène internationale, comme l'imagine le numéro huit de l'équipe de Perpignan, dans la bataille pour la possession du ballon près du but néo-zélandais.

Pour Felipe Contepomi, «Ce sera un match physique et très dynamique, et à leur retour, nous devrons avoir l'énergie nécessaire pour défendre et récupérer le ballon face à une équipe très dangereuse. Ils ont de la puissance, de la vitesse et un bon jeu. »

« Les All Blacks sont traditionnellement une équipe très difficile à affronter en raison de toutes leurs variables. Ils sont très réguliers ; nous devrons nous battre pendant 80 minutes et voir ce qui se passe avec le résultat », a-t-il conclu.

Il a souligné : « Notre mentalité est d'être là et de les attaquer à fond dès que nous en avons l'occasion. Le plus important est de comprendre qu'on peut être éliminé ou concéder un essai, et de savoir comment revenir».

En tant que trois-quarts, Contepomi se concentre sur un milieu de terrain dynamique. Santiago Chocobares (Toulouse), de Rufino, joue brillamment en défense, ainsi que Lucio Cinti (Saracens),  de Buenos Aires.

Le duo de Tucumán composé de Gonzalo García (Zebre) et Tomás Albornoz (Benetton) doit libérer le jeu d'Oviedo, de Marcos Kremer (Clermont), d'Entre Ríos, de Pablo Matera (Honda), de Buenos Aires, et de Franco Molina (Western Force) de Córdoba.

L'absence et la rétrogradation notables de Beauden Barrett suggèrent que Scott Robertson a pris la mauvaise décision. Le frère de Barrett, Jordie, évolue en défense centrale et combine occasionnellement avec Billy Proctor, tandis que Will Jordan, Sevu Reece et Rieko Ioane forment le trio défensif.

On retrouve un troisième Barrett parmi les avants: le capitaine Scott, remis de blessure, prend sa place aux côtés de la révélation de l'année, Fabian Holland.
