Sudáfrica sobrevivió a una brutal batalla con Argentina para arrebatarle a Nueva Zelanda el título del 14º Rugby Championship 2025, ganando al último aliento por ajustado 29-27 (10-13).

En la catedral de Twickenham en el suroeste de Londres y ante 70.360 espectadores, la mayoría sudafricanos y pequeños grupos de argentinos, los Springboks retuvieron su corona al último aliento.

Argentina presentó ferozmente la confrontación física para sacudir a Sudáfrica que necesitaba la victoria para desbancar a Nueva Zelanda del primer primado y tomar ventaja al descanso de 13-10.

Mientras que en Perth, en el lejano oeste de Oceanía,  Australia claudicaba y aumentaban las esperanzas de Nueva Zelanda por descontar los puntos de ventaja de Sudáfrica,  tras goleada de 28-14.

 

Pero los Springboks con aguerrido medio scrum Cobus Reinach con hat-trick y Hombre del Partido, fue creciendo, con ventaja de 29-13 que parecía inexpugnable y con scrum que sometió a los Pumas.

Sin embargo Los Pumas, conducidos por sus generales cordobeses Juan Cruz Mallía y Santiago Carreras, mostraron un gran espíritu para tardía remontada y en los últimos minutos.

El hoy full back Santiago Carreras lanzó patadón de clase excelsa lanzando al wing mendocino Rodrigo Isgró al vuelo el balón y que apoyó a los 82’ y con la conversión de Santi Carreras se logró  el 27-29.

Santiago Carreras fue el máximo goleador del 14º Rugby Championship 2025. Finalizó el torneo con un total de 72 puntos. En la última fecha, anotó 12 puntos en el partido contra Sudáfrica.

Previamente, había destacado con 23 puntos en la victoria frente a Australia, donde su efectividad contribuyó significativamente al triunfo de Los Pumas sobre los Wallabies.

Argentina se quedó a 2 puntos de Sudáfrica, que fue  el campeón del máximo certamen del hemisferio sur, con 19 puntos y mejor coeficiente de Nueva Zelanda;  3º fue Australia con 11 y 4º Argentina con 10.

Los referatos, no reflejaron maniobras defensivas ni ofensivas en las canchas, y no fue la excepción el italiano Andrea Piardi en Londres, como tampoco lo fue el inglés Christophe Ridley en Sidney.

À la cathédrale de Twickenham, dans le sud-ouest de Londres, devant 70 360 spectateurs, principalement des Sud-Africains et quelques Argentins, les Springboks ont conservé leur couronne in extremis.

L'Argentine a livré une confrontation physique féroce pour ébranler l'Afrique du Sud, qui avait besoin d'une victoire pour détrôner la Nouvelle-Zélande et prendre l'avantage 13-10 à la mi-temps.

Pendant ce temps, à Perth, à l'extrême ouest de l'Océanie, l'Australie a cédé, et les espoirs de la Nouvelle-Zélande de réduire l'écart de points avec l'Afrique du Sud se sont accrus après une défaite écrasante (28-14).

Será una confrontación con el full back Santiago Carreras liderando la hazaña de los Pumas, frente al apertura  Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, liderando el objetivo de los Boks,  por títulos consecutivos.

La catedral de Twickenham en el suroeste londinense presenta una final decisiva, con los Springboks sumando 15 puntos, por delante de los All Blacks  con 14, los Wallabies 11 y los Pumas con 9 unidades.

Completan ésta última ronda en el máximo torneo del hemisferio sur, los Wallabies enfrentando a los All Blacks en el Optus Stadium, en Perth, lejano oeste australiano a las 06:45 del sábado, hora argentina.

Sudáfrica llegó desde Durban en la costa oriental sobre el océano Índico, tras una actuación de diez tries que recordó en el Kings Park, su capacidad para convertir la presión en puntos tras ráfagas violentas.

Argentina llega con la redención del reajuste, tras el aturdimiento en un plantel que pugna por superar la traumática derrota derrota encajada sin atenuantes una semana atrás.

El entrenador porteño Felipe Contepomi presenta  cambios tácticos, con los conductores cordobeses de siempre: Santiago Carreras de apertura pasa a full back y Juan Cruz Mallía de full back a wing izquierdo.

En el neurálgico núcleo de los delanteros, el porteño Santiago Grondona, debutará como octavo en lugar del cordobés Joaquín Emanuel Oviedo, que espera en el banco, el momento de proyectarse en el scrum.

En segunda línea comienza el porteño Guido Petti Pagadizábal por el cordobés Franco Molina y el rafaelino Pedro Rubiolo va en lugar del porteño Lucas Paulos, para el combate en las alturas.

The Pumas-Springboks in a challenge until the last minute

South Africa visits Argentina at Twickenham in the sixth and final round of the 14 Rugby Championship, in a last-minute challenge at Twickenham Cathedral on Saturday, starting at 10:00 a.m. Argentinian time.

It will be a confrontation with full-back Santiago Carreras leading the Pumas' feat, against fly-half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, leading the Boks' quest for back-to-back titles.

Twickenham Cathedral in southwest London presents a decisive final, with the Springboks on 15 points, ahead of the All Blacks on 14, the Wallabies on 11, and the Pumas on 9.

The Wallabies complete this final round of the top Southern Hemisphere tournament, facing the All Blacks at Optus Stadium in Perth, far west Australia, at 6:45 a.m. on Saturday, Argentinian time.

South Africa arrived from Durban on the east coast of the Indian Ocean, following a ten-try performance that was reminiscent of their ability to turn pressure into points after violent bursts at Kings Park.

Argentina arrives with the redemption of a reshuffle, following the dismay of a squad struggling to overcome the traumatic defeat suffered without any extenuating circumstances a week ago.

Buenos Aires’s coach Felipe Contepomi introduces tactical changes, with the usual Cordoba’s leaders: Santiago Carreras moves from fly-half to full-back and Juan Cruz Mallía from full-back to left wing.
